Changing Lengths of Work Spans

To change the length of a work span

The length of a work span (i.e., its Quantity value) can be changed by using the Work Location Properties dialog box or by editing the value in the Quantity column of the Design Workspace. Changes to the Quantity / Length property of a GIS work location overrides its default length, which is calculated from GIS coordinates. Specifying the actual length of the span from field measurements will produce more reliable cost estimates and bills of materials.

Span-type features and units that are assigned to the work location automatically inherit the Quantity / Length value as well as any subsequent changes to this value.

If the definition of the span feature includes an attribute representing its real-world length (such as Actual Length), then the value for this attribute will be derived from the length of the parent work span.

  1. From the list of work locations displayed in the Design Workspace, right-click the work span whose length you want to change and select Properties from the shortcut menu to open the Work Location Properties dialog box.
  2. In the Quantity box, type a new value and click OK.
Note: To edit the span length directly in the Design Workspace, double-click the value in the Quantity column and type a new value. Then press the Tab key or the Enter key or click a different area of the Design Workspace. To cancel the change, press the Esc key.
